Why RTMP is NOT the most secure online streaming method

Heads up! RTMP streaming will only work with files that do not have spaces in the filenames, and ideally are all lowercase. Please check your filenames.

Overview & Security

This is our most secure option for media streaming here at S3Bubble, competing with other services saying signed URLs are the method of media protection which is not actually protecting your videos. Signed URLs will protect against a percentage of users, however with tech savvy people now being able to simply open developer tools in Chrome and check the network tab to download the URL this is no longer the most secure option.

Using signed URLs does prevent people from sharing you video across websites but it does not prevent people from easily downloading your content.

As a side note, we suggest our members use sound business logic based around their need for a secure streaming solution, what streaming method suits them?

Secure RTMP streaming is that little bit more complicated to set up, but its worth it in the end.  RTMP prevents users being able to use open developer tools, grabbing the URL and downloading your videos and audio. We're feeling pretty confident about this solution, so test it for yourself and let us know what you think?

Encoding & Transcoding

This video was encoded using handbrake and it was encoded using the Apple Tv preset 3 with web optimised check. Everything is streaming from a secure Cloudfront RTMP distribution.  Also, for that extra added bit of security delivery by S3Bubble all your URLs are signed.
