There are several wordpress GA plugins that give excellent data granularity.

    Hi Sam,

That would be very cool…what might be cooler is if it can be applied to all videos inside a bucket folder, so one can bulk apply a distinct cloudfront url to each user-output folder giving granular distribution data both for billing and analytics.

Is that possible to choose bucket or folder?

    Hi Sam,

    Cool additions!

Will all of these updates work on any wordpress theme?

    Thank you!

    Hi Sam,

Thank you for the info and I also saw the video on YouTube.

I have both Mac and PC but have been using mostly my PC for these as it’s newer.

    Questions:

Can it be installed on PC?

Can presets be easily made for both HLS variable resolution video as well as audio TS?

Also, I noticed on my encodes using the new custom presets that the “Quality” settings in the playback window control bar show the whole name of the custom preset and not just 2160p, 1080p, 720p etc…can the quality settings display be either; edited to simplify, or also turned off in the Meta Window?

I noticed Netflix and Soundcloud do not give you quality options like YouTube…

    Thank you!
    Jamie

PS Donnykingmedia, was the $600 charge due to the setting I showed you how to change?

    Hi Sam,

    Thank you!

I select AWS Elastic Transcoder in Admin. And see my single existing pipeline.

I select View Presets…it opens the window with all of the existing presets.

I then have tried both Copying one of them and Also Clicking on +Create New Preset.

In both instances the detailed preset window opens and I make all of the changes I want including new name and at the bottom I click on Save Preset and nothing happens. It never saves.

Okay…so then I logged into S3 using Chrome instead of Firefox and I went through those steps and get an error popup (Firefox said nothing about blocking popups here) and the error says Cant use any track option with AAC except no choice or single track…Okay so I created five presets with Chrome, but it was also a bit unstable, but after exiting and returning it worked for the second preset.

S3BubbleTS-AAC-48K-320-Stereo-Preset (wanted to be audio only)
S3BubbleHLS-AAC-48k-320-Stereo-Preset (wanted to be audio only)
    S3BubbleHLS-720p-auto-48k320Stereo-Preset
    S3BubbleHLS-1080p-auto-48k320Stereo-Preset
    S3BubbleHLS-2160p-auto-48k320Stereo-Preset

With an audio only preset how do you turn off the video options?
My second audio preset was copying one of your audio only ones and it still opened with video options.

So, I can’t make presets in my version of Firefox…Strange…new computer and software up-to-date.

As for the use any folder in any bucket that’s great news!!!

    More testing now…

    Thank you!

    Hi Daniel,

    Log into your amazon account.

Then go here: (this link assumes you made your cloudfront distribution in region US East which is Virginia where all your stuff should be for cloudfront and AWS buckets)

    https://console.aws.amazon.com/cloudfront/home?region=us-east-1#

It should have a title at the top of: CloudFront Distributions

If you only have one distribution it should have a comment like this: S3Bubble Powered Web Distribution
If you have more than one then go into all of them and make sure your settings are correct for all of them.

Click the little box to the left of the distribution to select it.

Then look above on the page and click the button: DISTRIBUTION SETTINGS (it will only be available to click if only one is selected)

A new window will open with details of that distribution…Click the EDIT button.

A new window will open for editing that distribution.

Look down to the 5th bold title (here are the top 5):

    Price Class

    AWS WAF Web ACL

    Alternate Domain Names
    (CNAMEs)

    SSL Certificate

Custom SSL Client Support (THIS IS THE ONE YOU LOOK AT) You have two choices for this setting:

Only Clients that Support Server Name Indication (SNI)

    OR

All Clients ($600/month prorated charge applies. Learn about pricing.)

If All Clients is selected then change it by clicking the button ONLY CLIENTS THAT SUPPORT SNI.

    Save your changes.

If ALL CLIENTS was checked that would explain the extra $600/month in fees.

If not then something else is making your charges high…you could also look at the first Setting PRICE CLASS and change that to only serve from The USA, CANADA & EUROPE instead of ALL EDGE LOCATIONS as Brazil and the Asia Pacific cost more for serving requests…As you start making money change back to ALL EDGE for better performance worldwide.

Also make sure all of your buckets and Distributions are in US EAST VIRGINIA or you will have additional fees for Transfer Requests.

CLICK “YES EDIT” Blue Button at bottom right of window before exiting, if you did make changes.

    Let me know Daniel.

    Good Luck, Jamie

    Hi Donny King Media,

In your Cloudfront Distribution Settings did you select “All Clients” in Custom SSL?
All clients is really expensive and looks like your price jump…Try choosing only clients that support SNI.
All Clients is ProRated so only what you used to date…if checked then change asap.

    Custom SSL Client Support
Only Clients that Support Server Name Indication (SNI)CloudFront serves your content over HTTPS only to clients that support SNI. Older browsers and other clients that do not support SNI can not access your content over HTTPS.

All Clients ($600/month prorated charge applies. Learn about pricing.)CloudFront allocates dedicated IP addresses at each CloudFront edge location to serve your content over HTTPS. Any client can access your content.

I have been trying to create different Encoder presets and the tool looks amazing, even though it still won’t save any of my attempts.

I was looking at the existing presets and have some audio suggestions.

For example: The S3bubble4kPreset has audio as 2 channel stereo but single track, which reduces the stereo movie output to a mono track of the stereo signal, which would not be desirable for an actual film with stereo or multitrack audio surround.

One of the presets I want to create when the preset creator starts to behave is:
    AudioPacking: OneChannelPerTrackMOSto8tracks
    Channels: Auto

    This should result in:

MOS: (no audio) with no resulting audio channels or tracks created
Stereo: Two channels with the two discreet channels having individual tracks and preserving the stereo mix.
Multi-Channel: audio channels given discreet tracks up to 8 channels of audio:

    Cool Beans!!!

So, as for the encodes, I think my two greatest desires right now are:

    1) Being able to actually make new presets, which I would be happy to share.
    2) Knowing how to handle the encode folders…ie, can I choose another bucket as output, or move previous encodes to new folders in another bucket for cloud distribution without key or encryption issues?

    Thank you!!!

    Hi Sam,

So, now the window in video encode gives me a folder selection option, but only inside the root bucket either as output or root.

If it is not possible to send to whatever folder I choose in a second bucket, then my big question remains; Can I move an encoded media folder to any other bucket and sub-folder and it still works?
Do I create the cloud distributions for those specific folders then after copying the media into them?

Lastly, when I go to the Elastic folder and try to create new Adaptive Encoder presets it lets me do the details but doesn’t allow a save…it freezes and I have to quit the window.

    Hi Sam,

    WAF is all setup…Thank you!
Deleted pipelines and made a new one for the global input bucket…Thank you!

I am not seeing the above box for Adaptive Bitrate Media Encoder.
When I try to start an audio file encode I get a window with fixed presets and no option for modifying or selecting output folder, metadata etc.

    Any ideas?

    Hi Sam,

Cool, understand about the bucket global pipeline.
So, how can I define the encoded media destination folder?
Or, if it goes into the original media folder by default, can I move the finished encode folder into the other “output bucket sub-folder” and Cloudfront will play it no problem? I tried moving an encoded folder but the distribution did not do anything and even failed to play inside the admin panel.

I will check on the WAF link…thank you!

Another question…how can I remove the player image in an audio player or playlist?
The audio playlists don’t respond well on a cellular phone…the responsive collapses all text ontop of each other.

I thought if I removed the Poster it would have more room on mobile…

Also, can a player background be made transparent? If you look at Soundcloud both on computer and mobile app the waveform and text can go over a background image…which is very cool!

I noted the Description line does not appear on audio unfortunately.

Thank you for all the hard work and late nights!

    Hi Sam,

Wanted to keep this together for simplicity of thread.

Just tried setting up a WAF also and got this error.

    Hi Sam and Grace,

    Sam; quite brilliant indeed!
And, the high res audio files can be served as downloadable products…love it!

Grace; I’m glad you liked it!
Yes, this shoot had quite a mix of cameras (GH4 in 4K for drone and MovI, 2 x GoPro Hero3 Blacks for daytime timelapses in 4K, a GH3 for extra raw timelapses, and a Canon 5D Mark2 for the key motion control day and night timelapses in almost 6K raw). However, 8 bit was our ceiling even with the RAW stills.
Looking forward to the GH5 combined with the Atomos Ninja Inferno for 422 10bit recording.

The 4K uncompressed master has almost no banding…the H264 added much more banding and the streaming encodes only worsened the effect. However, the 4K plus capture resolutions made the night time stars viewable, the best of which being the wide shot. I might play around with some blur to see if it solves the banding…Thanks for the tip!

Sam; Something I saw in bucket best practices on AWS has me thinking…
They say there should be 1 bucket with all media in (pre encode source master) and another single bucket with all media out (post encode stream versions), however within those two buckets you would have folders for each vendor/client, within each folder would reside their media uploads in and streams out, both buckets and media all in the same region.

This helps reduce bidirectional bottlenecks and accelerate streams, and also helps organize client media.

Can S3 Bubble work with folders within buckets? I thought I read it could not.
Can S3 Bubble also make the stream folder encode into a second bucket as they suggest?

This would be excellent, because Amazon S3 has a 100 bucket max, and I will hopefully exceed 50 to 100 clients quickly, so would prefer to have 2 buckets with many many sub directories.
Currently I have been making single buckets for each initial client, but I don’t want to throw everyone into one bucket without a way to organize them…would be a big mess!

Please advise and both have a great weekend!!!

    Hi Grace,

Yes I am zen and I know this cool tool will evolve like crazy and I want to be a part of it, which is also how I feel about our forum brainstorming here.

    Awesome and thank you!

I have fully embraced 4K for years and have been shooting and pushing people to shoot always regardless of delivery format. 6k and 8K are already emerging, and a 4K master is more valuable now and can survive the next decade with library values well above 1080 or lower resolution content. I’m in it for the long haul.

Before digital I shot on 35mm film, cut on workprint and nle edit suites (which I build), then telecined masters to tape, later digitizing back from SD to varied formats, so I know what you are deep into right now with your archival media and am really happy with your results. But, there may be a value for HD streaming.

I am doing compressions from 360p to 4K of this film I created; here’s a YouTube link as my site is not yet ready to share.

    Enjoy, Jamie

    Hi Grace and Sam,

If 30fps is the only frame rate available for our streams, then exports from media encoder should probably be 30p regardless of original frame rate. Worth a test to see if the blending goes away or is cleaner.

I have an almost brand new windows laptop that plays 4K camera source files without choking, yet all of my site movies choke at all stream resolutions…and some never recuperate.

I don’t have the option of sticking with low res versions, since most if not all of my content will be 4K UHD and 1080, so I’m not sure what to do…

    Best,
    Jamie
